Delivering Toronto

You might be surprised at how many people took their first breaths within NYGH’s walls. That’s because, with a large number of OB/GYN’s and a high number of referrals from our network of family physicians’, NYGH delivers up to 15% of all babies born in Toronto. NYGH is the clear birthing centre of choice for North York and surrounding areas, delivering over 6,000 babies each year.

Maternal Newborn Care at NYGH extends far beyond labour and delivery. For many, care starts in utero. Some babies need help before they are even born, which is why NYGH’s Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic is here to monitor and treat very early pregnancies at risk. And support doesn’t end when patients leave the hospital – NYGH’s Mother and Baby Follow-Up Clinic helps with breastfeeding and other follow-up help, seeing the most post-partum visits in North York.

"We put the patients in the centre of everything we do in the Maternal Newborn Program at NYGH," says Dr. Kirsten Smith, OB/GYN. "We are quick to adopt new evidence and new ways of delivering care when it is in the best interests of our patients. We want to be the best in everything we do."

Our Maternal Newborn Care Program relies on philanthropic support to help care for our youngest patients. Past gifts have helped bring state-of-the-art incubators and ultrasound machines to help us care for our youngest patients.

This year, we need your help to raise $100,800 for advanced equipment to treat babies with jaundice. Specially engineered BiliSoft blankets will help deliver healing phototherapy light to newborns, and a new, “no-poke” meter will help us diagnose jaundice without painful heel pricks.

Contact NYGH Foundation to find out how your gift will help. At NYGH, Going Beyond Care is what we do – but we can’t do it without you.
